That starts with training from an experienced team, like the people you’ll find at Alphapointe. They help you develop the right skills utilizing tools that help you effectively handle daily life no matter where it takes you. That includes shopping for groceries, using public transport, or just finding your way around your own neighborhood.

Skills training includes:
Effective use of the cane
We can teach you how to navigate the most effective way and take control of how and where you travel.
Maintaining orientation
We’ll help you learn how to find your way around by teaching about spatial relationships, mental mapping, route planning, simulated experiences, and more.
Curb alignment
This will help you establish directionality, improve your environmental awareness, create a starting point for street crossings, and ensures safer travel.
Using traffic sounds
We’ll help you understand what you’re hearing and how to use that to understand traffic flows, orientating yourself at intersections, safely cross streets, and navigate your community.
Shopping and Public Transport
Either of these can be disorienting and overwhelming for someone who is blind or visually impaired. Our team will work with you directly to figure out how to move through a grocery store and find what you need. You will also get “hands on” experience accessing and utilizing public transportation safely so you can get where you need to go.
